The Big Picture of the Bible
The Bible reveals God's plan to rescue humanity through Jesus Christ. In the same way a prism reveals the colors of light, our amazing God reveals himself through the Bible.
The Bible consists of 66 books which are divided into two parts. The Old Testament and the New Testament. In the Old Testament, we mainly see humanity's problem and in the New Testament, God's solution. So in short, the Bible gives us one big picture of God's plan of salvation for all humankind.
The Key Ideas of The Bible
This big picture begins with the creation of heaven and earth. Heaven is the superior realm where God rules in complete perfection and earth is the subordinate realm where humans who are made in God's image are entrusted with managing and ruling the earth.
However, humans rebel against God and his authority. The result of this sin, their relationship with God breaks and death enters the world. In order to be saved from death and regain relationship with God, humans must be saved from their sins. So to help humans realize this, God gives them the law with the Ten Commandments, which shows his perfect standard and the sin of man.
Fortunately, God is merciful. He loves us. And in his love, he promises a savior. The savior appears in Jesus Christ when God himself enters into creation as a man. He then bears the judgment on a cross that every rebellious human would have deserved: Death. Through Jesus's substitutionary death and his resurrection, relationship with God is made possible again.
Any person who repents and trusts in Christ alone will be saved and receive the Holy Spirit who enables them to understand God's thoughts and represent him on earth until Jesus himself appears as king.
